Motorcycle Seats: Give Your Back a Rest!
Motorcycle enthusiasts are usually thrilled by the chance to ride rough and fast, and get thrown around just a bit. But eventually, a rider’s back just starts to hurt from that constant jolting and thrashing, particularly if the rider’s off-roading quite a bit and doesn’t give his back a break. Motorcycles are designed for optimal aerodynamics over comfort, but at some point a back that’s in pain can cause the driver to slow down or ride more upright, which outweighs the gains of aerodynamic seat design. The right motorcycle seat can benefit a rider over the long term, and for that reason, each rider should equip his or her bike with a seat that best suits his/her need.
Some riders prefer seats with substantial backrests. Upgraded backrest-inclusive seating can help maintain the sleek, aerodynamic look of the bike while also providing greater support for a rider’s back. The more supportive the backrest, the less likely a rider will need to pause to give his back a break. Motorcycle backrests with the proper curvature and design will prevent a rider from feeling the need to hunch over, and can be a real lifesaver on long trips or when driving over bumpy roads.
Other motorcycle drivers really care more about the add-ons that come with upgraded motorcycle seats, and there are plenty to choose from. One of the most popular motorcycle add-ons is a seat with built-in storage. This compartment can be used to store a helmet, random knickknacks, and more, and helps a lot as most bikes don’t come with a lot of built-in storage space.
Seats can also be customized for style purposes, and sometimes drivers want to match up the color scheme of their bike seats with the color scheme of their bikes themselves. Different materials are also available, so a rider can also pick a more cushioning fabric or something that’s stiffer if that’s better for their back and/or rear end. Even size differences should be taken into account. A large guy shouldn’t be riding on a thin, narrow seat, as it won’t support him very well. Properly sized motorcycle seats can make a huge difference in rider comfort, allowing a biker to ride for longer without pain.
